Why work with me on your hypergrowth challenges?

  • Having survived and thrived at Amazon, one of the most legendary hypergrowth startups of all time, and founded my own company, TeachStreet (acquired by Amazon in 2012), I bring my hard-earned insights to the table as an advisor and coach.
  • My experience is broad-based, as a founder, investor, advisor, and product manager. I humbly believe that I’ve seen it all (or 99% of it).

What is my background?

  • Joined Amazon in 1998 as one of its first ten product managers and led product development teams through high-growth success (and some painful failures), including Amazon Marketplace, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon Associates, and more
  • Founded venture-backed TeachStreet in 2006 and eventually sold it to Amazon.com in 2012
  • Invested in and advise 20+ high-growth tech startups, and mentored 100s of entrepreneurs and high-impact professionals
  • Helped build the AWS Startup Business Development organization that serves startups and investors around the world

Who do I coach?

  • Founders/leaders at companies that have achieved product-market fit and are about to (or have begun to) experience hypergrowth
  • Founders who are experiencing new growth challenges on all fronts
  • High-performance/potential employees inside rapid-growth organizations looking to accelerate their personal development

What types of problems/questions do my clients wrestle with?

  • How do we maintain our hiring standards as we rapidly scale recruiting?
  • What do we stand for, and how do we attract teammates who are a great fit?
  • How do I attract, lead and motivate a world-class leadership team?
  • How do we organize teams to move fast and still stay in the loop?
  • How do we implement performance management systems that work for a company our size?
  • How do we execute in an environment of nonstop uncertainty?
  • How can I better assess risk, prioritize and act decisively?

How will the coaching relationship be structured?

  • We will meet for 2 one-hour sessions per month, where I ask you challenging questions specific to your situation/organization (I’m available via chat/phone between meetings)
  • Each meeting will generate actionable solutions for 1-2 of your most pressing issues; I am results-oriented and expect my clients to be the same
  • I will insist that you be accountable for follow-thru on your commitments
  • Most engagements last 3-6 months; we will wrap as soon as you have achieved your goals
