Another 4 day vacation just about finished. It felt so good. And it was only 4 days. Go figure.
Spent the day today working on Karen’s three to-do’s for the day. 1 – Put all Christmas decorations away. 2 – Clean up the office. 3 – Clean up the basement (scrub floor to clean up after dog-sitting that we did, and to prepare for all the Christmas boxes again) Karen’s finishing up now — I did my actual fair share. How surprising.
Also picked up my copy of the New York Times from today (1/1/02). Is a tradition 3 years running now, to pick up a newspaper on the first day of the year. I look into the future and see myself auctioning off a colleciton of the last 50 year’s of New Year’s NYT’s on eBay — I’ll probably get a cool $7 or something. Or, maybe my kids will find them interesting. Or, maybe I’ll use them for packing material. Either way, I expect big things from them.
Oh yes. We spent 12/30 on the boat. Thru the locks and over to Blake Island. Fantastic beautiful day. Played a bunch of Gin Rummy. Karen cleaned my clock — really, she did. I never stopped thinking that my luck would turn, but maybe it has something to do with skill? Because, my ship never came in.
Rained over night, which made taking the dog in to shore for bathroom breaks a bit interesting. But, we pulled it off. Decided today (12/31) to change our moorage to Elliott Bay Marina. Stopped there on the way back (to get coffee, primarily, because our batteries were too dead to make a pot, and if I don’t have my coffee, I find that I become a bit belligerent) Being in that nice, peaceful marina sealed the deal. We called them, and they had a few slips open, so we booked one, and cancelled our old marina (thunderbird marina, on lake union). I’m quite excited about the prospects of moving the boat out there. It is so much more peaceful. Sunsets will be more magnificent. And, I can see us spending more simple nights just hanging out on the boat, and since we’re outside the locks on the Sound, expect that we’ll do more sleepover trips at different spots. So exciting that summer is coming!
Found a great Seattle website today… you start at his loft cam website, then move to his overall site… he’s got a great set of links… especially this one, that shows you maps over every place in the world — awesome!
It has taken several months, but it seems like blogger.com is finally working, and that I can now make more frequent, and simple, updates to my daily ramblings / diary on my www.nosnivelling.com website. Check back to see what is going on in my scary brain — it isn’t all cookies and cream, I can assure you. Today is 12/29/01… two days before that big event, New Year’s Eve. My preference is that Karen and I disappear on the boat and float off the back of Blake Island, but Karen wants to be sure we are near the house. Good part of being near the house is that I can be on the internet 23.2 hours per day. Bad part is that I’m on the internet for all but 0.8 hours per day. Quite a conundrum.
This story, from God, is also a good one.
That reminds me — I’m reading the bible right now. Have been in Genesis for about a week, and have found it very interesting. I received this bible for Christmas last year, and I recommend it to anyone who has ever wanted to give the big book a reading. It puts the bible into modern english, and has summaries of lives of key players in the evolution of mankind (you know… adam, eve, abram/abraham, sarai/sarah, isaac…) and explains things so they are relevant. Anyway, it has been interesting thus far. I think that I’ll break it up by reading something fresh in between each of the books, or sections, or whatever you call them — expect that I’ll read Good to Great after Genesis… then Adventures of Kavalier and Clay after whatever book is next… Exodus maybe?
